Bill Houghton, CGA
Bill Houghton is a Certified General Accountant with over 25 years of public practice experience. He is the owner and founder of Houghton & Company, an accounting practice in Kelowna, B.C.
Bill was born and raised in Kenora, Ontario, and moved to Kelowna in 1968, where he completed high school, graduating from KSS in 1971. Bill entered the Certified General Accounting program in 1976 and moved to Victoria where he worked with the Canada Revenue Agency as an Income Tax auditor while completing the CGA program. Bill received numerous awards from the CGA Association for obtaining the highest marks in both auditing and accounting before graduating in 1982. Shortly after graduating, Bill moved back to Kelowna to establish his own public practice firm.
Bill and his wife Sally-Mae have two children who have both graduated from UBC with Commerce degrees and his daughter joined him to work at the firm in 2007. His son is currently working as a developer in the residential area Smith Creek Estates. Bill is an avid golfer and is past president of Westbank Kinsmen Club. Bill has been named as a finalist for the best accountant in the Central Okanagan for four years in a row, as published by Okanagan Life Magazine. His dedication to his clients, commitment to a high ethical standard and extensive knowledge of Canadian income tax legislation have contributed to the success of Houghton & Company today.
Corey LaFreniere, CGA
Corey LaFreniere joined the firm in 2004 and obtained his Certified General Accountant designation in February 2008. A native of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Corey moved to Vancouver to complete his undergraduate degree at the University of British Columbia. In 2004, Corey moved to the Okanagan with his wife Tara, and they celebrated the birth of their first child in the fall of 2009. Outside the office, he enjoys making the most of the many unique sporting and recreational activities Kelowna has to offer, such as fishing, golfing, skiing and hockey.
Anjie Blue, CA
Anjie Blue was born and raised in Kelowna, and earned her Bachelor of Business Administration with Accounting Major from Okanagan University College in spring of 2003. Shortly after, she backpacked through Europe for two months before articling with a large CA firm in the Okanagan, while enrolled in the CA School of Business. After four years in public practice, Anjie passed the UFE (Uniform Evaluation) in the winter of 2007 and officially become a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of BC in January of 2008. Anjie and her husband Warren were married in fall of 2007, and she joined the Houghton & Company team in October of 2008. Anjie enjoys camping and traveling, and has recently taken up dragon boat racing and golf in her spare time. She is active in the community, with the majority of her volunteering in support of the SPCA and Easter Seals organizations.
